Research & Development – a hotbed of innovation

Over the last 30 years, Quantel’s R&D department has been the source of many of the ground-breaking digital signal handling and processing technologies that are now the backbone of television and digital film production around the world. Today Quantel’s development engineers are continuing to push the boundaries of what’s possible with the latest generation of software and hardware – as a quick scan of Quantel’s current product range elsewhere on this website shows.



The results of our R&D Department’s work are highly visible too. In the UK, for example, virtually every news broadcast on television is produced on Quantel equipment, as are many programmes and commercials. In addition, many of the movies on show at your local cinema have also benefited from Quantel technology.

Software and hardware engineers work side-by-side in small teams in Quantel’s richly-resourced development lab. at the company’s Newbury, UK headquarters. There are no artificial barriers between disciplines, but rather the application of the most appropriate techniques to deliver the industry-leading performance and usability for which Quantel products are renowned. This will often prove to be a combination of advanced hardware and software techniques, that also leverage the best of industry-standard operating systems, hardware and software modules as appropriate.
